I am sure you will have heard of Facebook: it's the social network site of the moment with 60 billion* registered users...
You probably know that you can start "groups" on Facebook, but you may not know that you can also create "Pages".
A Page is quite like a profile page for a person, but it's used to represent a (your) "brand". Coke, Pepsi, Nike,
What Facebook wants is for you to step into it's advertising programme and spend some pennies to pushing your page towards your chosen demographic: but you don't have to advertise, so it doesn't have to cost you anything.
You maybe surprised to hear that practically all the big name brands run their own "pages".
I am not a Facebook fanatic, (no time either) but I as I am always looking out for ways to help promote the site and it's members I added a "Fan on Facebook" link to the homepage a short while back, and when I logged into Facebook this evening I was plesantly surprised to see that the "Handmade Contemporary Jewellery" page has 44 "Fans".
What Fanning does is basically add a link to the HCJ page on Facebook to the Fan's profile page, and as there are direct links from the Facebook page to the site it makes a two click hop to the site.
The more Fans the more links, the more links the more fans, the more fans the more links.... That's the theory anyway.
Anyway BIG-UP to all the people who have given the site the thumbs up and become a Fan!
....oh yeh, this post was originally about promotion possibilities. So if you feel that you have a "brand" which people can associate with, and you have some time to sit and set one up; a Facebook page could get 60 billion* users flocking to your site!
*note: made up number.
