Add Google Friend Connect to your site!

Postby bert » Tue Jan 06, 2009 1:18 pm

I have just sent this to the Orchid forum/email list.
Hello all,
I know allot of you run web sites and would be interested in engadging deeper with your site visitors.
In December Google brought out "Friend Connect" which gives web site owners a simple ways of adding a community aspect to their site.

I have implemented it on the HCJ Project site: http://handmadecontemporaryjewellery.com
If you are interested in finding out how to add it to your site you can find more information at: http://www.google.com/friendconnect/

I think it would be interesting if people added it to their sites and we all joined each others. It would initially help people get over the slightly embarrassing period after you have added the code to your site, where you have "no members". But more interestingly it would build a fairly instant "network" of jewellery sites.

It'll be interesting to see if it gets intercepted in the same way that my "get the ball rolling" message was.

Personally, being more cynical than I was in the "early days" (isn't that a shame), I would expect the message not to get thru, and then find that Friend Connect be implemented on the site that Orchid is related to and a few other selected sites.
Like a management memo that the floor workers don't need to see.

Away with such negative thoughts!!

What I hope to happen is that many jewellery site owners actually put GFC on their sites, then join the HCJ Project as a friend. Enabling rapid "people based network connections" to form, which generate allot more interest for the site owners. :!:

Cynic!

Looks like the message went through without any problems. :) You shouldn't be such a cynic.
I hope that a few people will think it's an interesting idea.
If you don't know it's because you haven't asked.
