Using Flickr to promote your work

Postby qwallis » Fri Jun 27, 2008 11:42 am

If you know about Flickr then you'll know that there are lots of people using it to promote their work: either blatant promotion or a little more cautiously.
Because you often see people being quite (or even very) blatant it's easy to be tempted to start doing the same thing: but doing so puts your account at risk of deletion without notice.

Because the guidelines are quite ambiguous I started a thread in the help forums. It's way to long to sit and read through, but there were some very interesting and definitive answers provided by Flickr staff fairly early on in the thread which can help you not inadvertently step over the line, and then later suffer the "This person is no longer active on Flickr" horrors when you try to login.

Here's a link to the thread.
If you don't know it's because you haven't asked.

Hello,

I have never tried using Flickr before, I am relatively new to posting work places. But I did take a gamble and started posting my work on Etsy after a few people mentioned that I should do so. So far so good, its easy to use, relatively cheep and helps to grow new viewers along with providing an easy way to handle credit card transactions.

Robert--

Thank you for the heads up about Flickr, and the thin line! I've posted links to etsy now that I started a shop, and it was good to read the ins and outs.

I've had a lot of good come out of Flickr--I've met jewelry artists and other makers from around the world. One group I was in did a Secular Secret Santa Swap, and it was really interesting to do a blind exchange.

I'm glad I didn't brazenly post prices in my poorhouse desperation!

Jillian, I have published your "static" artist entry, so now you can edit it when you have time, or would like to add more information etc.

I removed the esty shop link. Don't take it like a ticking off :)
You have probably missed the guidelines. There is a forum thread here where I'm hoping to bash out a more understandable draft. Please add your two'peneth if you want.

No problem about removing the link...I need to get my webmaster (boyfriend) to update my own site and get the link up along with lots of other things. I'm sorry I didn't catch it in the guidelines before.

I'm just glad I managed to pull off a mostly competent posting!

I have started searching Flickr for all of the other members of HCJ and am making them my contacts.
