stone inlay

Postby blindspotjewellery » Fri Nov 27, 2009 12:39 am

Hi,

I am planing to play with marble. I would like to do stone in stone inlay in it. Do you have any ideas about the materials (glue/resin/cement) I can use? I heard that in this case the expansion by heat is a very crucial question. I would appreciate any oppinions or suggestions on stone to stone connections.

I used to work for a firm who did some stone in stone inlays.

The inlay was bonded with a two part epoxy-adhesive. The correct colour match attained by special dyes.

I would try to avoid all heat on any finished stones with inlays, more because of the epoxy than expansion problems.

Marble is obviously very acid sensitive too :)
If you don't know it's because you haven't asked.

I'm not a big fan of "email lists" although is does look to be a better system than most.
I hope it's "active" and provides you with some new tips :)

you are right, this email list thing is a bit annoying. My mail box is already full of mails about "how to lift heavy stones" and things like that..

We've done quite a bit of commeso work over the years. Epoxy 330 is hands down the best adhesive we've found for stone. It is very tolerant of coloring agents. You can add just about everything from stone dust to paint to color it without weakening its bonding properties.
